May 14 @ 5:30 pm
CIVIL UNREST, POLITICAL CONFLICT,
THE WAR ON KIDS, A PANEL DISCUSSION
Theatre often reveals the truth of the human condition. In “the Sound of Cracking Bones” by Suzanne Lebeau two child soldiers are on the run seeking a life of normalcy and safety. The play illustrates the impact of war political conflict on children. In this panel discussion inspired by the theme of the play, Marla Pacheco, Carolina Yepiz Castro, and Summer Aguilera, members of the Free the Children Coalition, will share their experiences in traveling to Tornillo Tent City an immigration detention facility that held almost 3,000 children separated from their families as a result of the “Zero Tolerance Immigration Policy.” Their goal was to inquire whether it was possible for the children to regain their freedom by escaping to Mexico.
The Panel Discussion will also include commentary from international human rights activist Isabel Garcia, and Internationally acclaimed actress Luisa Huertas who is starring in Teatro Dignidad’s production of “The Sound of the Cracking Bones.”
