Sunnyslope Walk- In (The Fight is Not Over Yet)
April 18 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am
At Sunnyslope, on April 18th, we would like to encourage parents, educators, support staff and community members to join us in a walk-in at the high school.
The basic details for Wednesday are as follows:
(1) Parents, teachers, and community members gather in front of the school on Wednesday, April 18th at 7:00am
(2) From 7:00- 7:30/8:00, Parents, teachers and community members spread up and down Central and Dunlap with their #REDforED signs.
(3) At 7:25/7:30 teachers will collectively gather and will walk together into the school. Parents and community members are encouraged to continue with their signs and visibility out front until 7:45/8:00.
What are we fighting for?
Last week we had well over 100,000 people stood in solidarity across the state of Arizona demanding more for our schools, including our students, educators, support staff and our community as a whole.
On Thursday, Governor Ducey proposed a plan that, on the surface, sounds great for teachers and school funding. However, there are still key elements to his proposal that are missing.
We still don’t know where the money is coming from, to increase teachers’ salaries and school funding. We don’t know who will be defined as a teacher to benefit from his proposal. AND his plan fails to establish a livable wage for our Support Staff.
Until we know that our schools and staff are fully funded, without starving other vital resources, we will continue to gather and increase the pressure on the Governor and Legislature to do the right thing and truly take care of our public schools, as they are drafting the final legislation and budget.
We believe that we can achieve great things as a collective and hope you will join us in this cause.
