Kindred, Black Culture, & Picturing Social Change

March 11 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Comics artist and UCR Professor of Media and Cultural Studies John Jennings speaks with UA Associate Professor of History Tyina Steptoe on the intersections of literature, design, black culture, politics, and history. The session will highlight Jennings’ recent graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Kindred, how depictions of blackness have changed over time, and how black women activists have long been catalysts for political change.

This session is sponsored by the UA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the UA Institute for the Study of Religion and Culture.

Event will be at the Social and Behavioral Sciences Tent (# 150) just south of the Student Union on the UA Mall.
