Lecture by: Rellani Ogumoro 2L

Rellani Ogumoro (2L) is Refaluwasch from the Northern Mariana Islands. Prior to starting law school, Ogumoro served as a program analyst in the Office of the Assistant Secretary–Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior and as a policy advisor under the Special Assistant to the president–Native American Affairs in the President Obama White House. In these positions, Ogumoro assisted leadership with the White House Council on Native American Affairs (Council)–dedicated to the coordination of federal policies and programs to better serve Indian Country.

This presentation will focus on the history of the Northern Mariana Islands and current issues. Ogumoro will discuss the political relationship between the United States of America and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The presentation will also touch on what it means to be an American from a U.S. territory.
