Grand Avenue Festival 2018
November 10 @ 11:00 am - 10:00 pm
We are gearing up for the 10th anniversary of the Grand Avenue Festival (GAF)! It’s amazing to think the event is approaching this 10-year milestone. The date will be Saturday, November 10th, from 11am – 8pm, with “After Hours” from 8-10pm.
GAF is an art-centric, non-traditional walking Festival that highlights arts, small businesses, adaptive re-use, recycling, and the unique history of Grand Avenue.
The Festival continues the tradition of fostering local music; art installations exhibited outdoors in unexpected locations; free historic building tours; fantasy flowers/decor in the artist-decorated planters along the street (some created by school students); mural projects; pop-up galleries; kid’s activities; artist-designed “selfie stands” (for memorable photo-ops); wandering performers (stilt walkers, poets, dancers, balloon twisters, clowns, face painters); arts/craft vendors; food trucks; and special activities presented by the unique small businesses along the Avenue.
The “Trashy Hat Promenade” and “Untrashed Recycled Fashion Show” remain colorful highlights of the day’s activities (along with a vintage/local designer fashion show curated by Arizona’s “Hip Historian” Marshall Shore) with participants showing off fashions created from recycled materials. Free tours, “Under the Vintage Roof”, highlight the history & adaptive reuse projects in the neighborhood, and remain an educational centerpiece of the event. Attendees can make their own “trashy hats” for free (all supplies provided) as one of the day’s activities, to be worn in the fashion show or merely to show off during the day. We have many more hands-on, make-and-take arts and crafts booths this year, headed up by art teachers, artists, and makers.
