Creative InSurgencies: Politics of Place

April 19 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

In collaboration with LISC Phoenix, please join us for Politics of Place. Using our new creative insurgencies framework, we will walk the Rio Salado River to learn about race and place in the design and construction of South Phoenix. This participatory walk will be facilitated by residents from south Phoenix. Learn about the racialized policies, histories, and present-day projects that continue to marginalize communities of color.

Free and Open to the Public

InSite’s work makes visible the production of space as always-already racialized, gendered, and subject to alienation. Central to the work is an analysis of how historical disparities present in a particular place influence the potential for equity over time. Without understanding the crucial role that place serves in sustaining racism, we cannot ensure equitable outcomes.

Politics of Place is a methodology InSite crafted to orient ourselves and others to the multiple narratives of place through walking and storytelling. We work with organizers and residents to develop a place-based approach to equity and justice. In essence, we treat place as another facilitator in our trainings. To participate, please contact us.

Join us after for an Idea Exchange with POC/WOC organizers innovating land use for liberation.
