Border Studies Spanish Classes
February 12 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
For the past year and a half, the Border Studies Program has been inviting members of the community to attend its Spanish classes. From Monday, January 22nd to April 23rd (no class for Spring Break March 12) we will offer a 12-week class with three different levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Classes will be held at the YWCA at 525 N. Bonita Ave and will be taught by Cristen Vernon and Josué Saldivar. The beginner class, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., will be for folks who have little to no experience with the Spanish language. The intermediate class, also from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. will be geared toward folks with intermediate-level Spanish and will be conversation based. The advanced class, from 6 to 7 p.m., will take the form of a book club in which we will read La frontera de cristal by Carlos Fuentes. If you are interested in taking a Spanish class along with Border Studies students, please answer the following questions. Since space is limited, we ask that you please sign up by Monday, January 8th. We will be asking for a sliding scale donation of $25-$100 for the semester, but nobody will be turned away. All money will go directly to pay guest speakers that will be invited throughout the semester.
