Hello, Leaders!

Thanks so much for taking part in this historic state-wide day of action!  Below are some suggestions for helping to make this a fun & safe event.  We realize that this is a long list, so by all means, please enlist your friends to help!  Thanks again for all your support for progressive causes!

Before the event, please:

  • Help spread word & ensure that we have a good crowd – RSVP in Facebook, invite your friends, share the event, post info. about it to your group’s FB page and to Twitter, & encourage your friends & others in your organization to do the same.  If you have an email newsletter, please help spread word that way too.

  • Read over the messaging for this event on the website & below (see “Messaging for these events,” below)
  • Bring the following with you to the event:  A basic first aid kit, a few cases of water, any extra umbrellas that you may have lying around, some trash bags, & a bullhorn if you have one
    • If you don’t have a bullhorn & are in the Phoenix metro area, please message AZ Resist on Facebook, we’ve got one that you can borrow

At the event, please:

  • Welcome people as they arrive, thank them for coming, & collect the letters they’ve written to their Congressional Rep.
    • Sometime before the Congressional Rep. office closes, deliver everyone’s letters
  • Encourage people to take photos & videos & to post & share them on social media
  • Make an announcement about the 8 “Summer for Progress” bills (see “Messaging for these events,” below)
  • Lead chants – Below are 2 lists with chant ideas. This is by no means a script, but rather resources that you may choose to use.
    • Click here for a list of protest Chants (sorted by category)
    • Click here for a Speech and Chants for this event.  This speech informs participants about the “Why” of the #Don’tTreadOnAZ event and the “What” in terms of the 8 “Summer for Progress” bills that we are encouraging House Democrats to co-sponsor.  Again, this is by no means a script, but rather a resource that you may choose to use and modify as you see fit.

At the close of the event, please:

  • Encourage people to display & leave their signs near the entrance to the Congressional Rep.’s office as a “gift” to them – Be sure to post a photo of all the signs!
  • Pick up any trash & recycling that’s been left behind
